Welcome to the International Symposium on Energy Challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa
From May 16 to 17, 2025
IN METZ (FRANCE)

Background and objectives
The International Symposium on Energy Challenges provides a unique platform to explore energy solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa. It brings together experts, policy makers, economic actors and researchers to share experiences, technologies and innovative business models. The focus will be on sustainable approaches, including renewable energies and smart technologies, to promote accessibility, security and energy efficiency. The proposed innovations should take into account the specificities of the region, such as:
as limited infrastructure, population growth, diverse energy needs and environmental fragility.
The aim is to formulate practical and ambitious recommendations for a successful energy transition, in the service of sustainable development and the improvement of the quality of life of populations. By addressing these questions, the symposium aims to initiate a collective reflection on the paths to be taken to accelerate the development of innovative solutions and shape a more sustainable and inclusive energy future for sub-Saharan Africa.

Presentation of the organizers
Composed of scientists, experts, professors, doctors, engineers, mainly from Togo, and having for the most part, benefited from a partnership established by Professor M. TIEM Sonnou between French and Togolese universities, the founding members of the association called "Generation of Impact and Excellence in Science and Technology" or GENIES, are willing to contribute to the scientific influence of sub-Saharan African countries. To this end, the association's leitmotif is to act and share scientific and technological knowledge. The association's vision is firmly committed to supporting training and encouraging technological initiatives in targeted emerging countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
As an objective, the GENIES association helps young scientists and organizations with scientific and technological projects to develop, thanks in part to strengthening cooperation with educational partners and industrial players. In this sense, and in line with the purpose of the association, the missions and boundary missions that the association gives itself are structured around the following points:
Through this international symposium, the GENIES association offers a unique platform bringing together experts, policy makers, economic actors and researchers to share experiences, technologies and innovative business models that can sustainably meet the growing energy needs of sub-Saharan African countries.
